In only four short months, another class of Windsor High School students will be walking across the stage to receive their high school diplomas. Last month, when the state released graduation rates, we had an important reminder of just how fortunate we are here in Weld RE-4 to be in a community that places such a high value on education.

While the state’s four-year graduation rate for the class of 2016 was 78.9 percent, our graduation rate in Weld RE-4 was 90.6 percent, a slight increase over 2015. I believe that our district’s graduation rate reflects how hard our students are working toward their future, as well as the tremendous support they are receiving from their families and their outstanding teachers. But it tells only a part of the story.

As proud as we are of our students for meeting this important milestone in their lives, we’re even prouder that 89 percent of our graduates go on to postsecondary education and 10 percent enter the military or workforce. Our graduates receive United States Military Academy appointments and Boettcher Foundation and Daniels Fund scholarship awards. They go on to have successful careers in a variety of industries.

In Weld RE-4, we are focused on inspiring innovation and empowering success in our students as they move toward the milestone of high school graduation. Staff across the district have adopted this mission, and they are running with it, providing students with a variety of innovative opportunities that motivate them in the classroom and beyond, from elementary on up.
Preparing students for graduation is a district-wide effort. It’s in our elementary schools where students are first exposed to the wonders of education, in our middle schools where their interests are nurtured, and in our high schools where there is a focus on exploring their future.

I invite you to see the whole picture of what Weld RE-4 offers students, families, and the community in a newly compiled booklet of Weld RE-4 schools and programs available online. Please email us at for a printed copy.

I was recently asked why I thought Weld RE-4 outperformed the statewide graduation rate. If anything gives us an edge, it is our community. The collaboration between students, educators, parents, and community members is unique, and it positively impacts the success of our students and our district.
